Due to prior meetings with residents by Village President Tom Cauley and the petitioner – and probably in part to the nice weather as well – the June 19 Village of Hinsdale Board of Trustees meeting was brief, with little discussion or comment surrounding the proposed Fox's Pizza at 777 N. York Road in Gateway Sqaure.

The owner, Frank Fox, currently operates Fox's restaurants in other Chicagoland locations, mostly to the south.

The proposal had met with some concern from surrounding residents due to increased traffic and the petitioner's desire to host live music, raising questions of excessive noise from the establishment.

The board voted 4-0, with Trustees Doug Geoga and Laura LaPlaca absent, for  an ordinance for a site plan and granting a special use for live music,  with some stipulations.

The board agreed live music must remain inside the establishment and no speakers can be placed outside. Other conditions included that deliveries be made to the back of the building and trucks must exit onto York Road.

Resident Andrew London, of York Road, said he wondered if allowing left turns onto York Road from the building would be a safety hazard and if left turns should be prohibited.

“If they want to turn left, it's going to be a problem [because of how busy York Road can get],” said London, “There are children in the area and I was just curious about heading off a possible problem.”

Cauley said that while he had also considered the issue, the heavy flow traffic would likely force most drivers to simply turn right on to York Road to save time.

“We considered having them do a three-point turn and exit the other direction and I will bring this matter up with the police chief,” he said. “But I think a right turn being the more practical approach will solve the issue.”

Cauley said if any of the stipulations are not met by the owner, the village will step in, but it appeared all parties were satisfied with the proposal.

The vote was the final approval needed for Fox's Pizza to open in what is currently a vacant storefront within the Gateway Square development.
