The following is a release from the Clarendon Hills Cardinals:
The Clarendon Hills Cardinals 11U travel-league baseball team won the Orland Park Regional Tournament last weekend.
The Orland Park Tournament began on Thursday and lasted four days. Composed of 13 boys all under 11, the Cardinals played six games against teams from Naperville, Orland Park, Oak Park, Matteson, Homer and Plainfield.
Despite the oppressive heat, the Cardinals beat the Homer Heat 7-4 to win the championship on Sunday. Cardinals coach Steve Driscoll noted the team won on the strength of its defense, allowing the least amount of runs of any team during the tournament.
“These kids really showed some heart and never gave up,” Driscoll said. “I’m proud of these young ballplayers who have tremendous character and improved with every game.”
Sunday’s victory marks the third tournament championship win this season for the Cardinals. They will travel to St. Louis this weekend to participate in their final tournament – the St. Louis Summer Sizzler.
