Cash Stolen from Birches Resident, Man Caught With Heroin Supplies: Police Blotter

Cash Taken From Retirement Home Resident
Someone stole $600 in cash from a resident of The Birches, 215 55th Street, between 2 p.m. Sunday and 1 p.m. Monday, police said. The money was located in a storage bin in the resident's closet at the time it was taken. The case is under investigation and police said they are questioning staff.
Burglary Reported, Jewelry Missing
A resident from the 200 block of Coe Road reported at 6:13 p.m. that his or her home was burglarized between 4 p.m. and 6:10 p.m., police said. The back door of the house was open and some costume jewelry was missing. The case is under investigation and there are no suspects at this time.
SATURDAY, DEC. 15
Man Flees Jewel, Found With Drug Paraphernalia
Police stopped a man who fled Jewel-Osco, 303 Holmes Avenue, after he was observed filling a bag with the medication Prilosec at 9:33 a.m. Police said the man dropped the bag and ran toward Holmes Avenue, where police caught up with him and found him to be in possession of drug paraphernalia that included two bags with traces of white powder, a burnt spoon and several used needles.
The man requested a hospital transport, which he was given. Police said criminal charges are pending the results of a test on the powder.
4-Foot Yard Santa Stolen
A 4-foot light-up Santa decoration was reported stolen from the front yard of a home in the 0-100 block of Norfolk Avenue at 11:06 a.m. Police said the resident did not file a report but did ask that the department return the Santa if officers come across it.
