$80,000 Backhoe Stolen from 55th Street Construction Crew

Clarendon Hills Police also recently responded to cases of DUI, driving without a license, and identity theft.

Theft—A backhoe worth $80,000 and belonging to the construction crew doing work on 55th Street was stolen while it was parked on 56th Street near Holmes Avenue, directly behind Jewel-Osco, between Feb. 23 and Feb. 27, according to the . 

The backhoe was recovered after police tracked the vehicle to 7144 Ogden Ave. in Berwyn using its internal GPS. The case is currently under investigation.

DUI— Shannon M. Geegan, of 600 Monterey Rd. in Palatine, was charged with DUI after she was observed to be under the influence of alcohol during a traffic stop for driving without headlights near the intersection of Burlington Avenue and Iroquois Drive at 4:09 a.m. Feb. 25 and failed an ensuing breath test.

Geegan, 28, was charged with DUI and driving without headlights.

Driving without a license—Len Adams, of 7746 S. Rhodes Ave. in Chicago, was charged with driving without a license after officers observed him arriving via automobile to the Clarendon Hills Police Department to post bond on an outstanding warrant for the same offense.

After seeing the 38-year-old drive up to the station, police checked to see if Adams had obtained a valid license. When it was determined he had not, he was charged with the second offense. The suspect was released with bond information and officers advised him to find a ride from the station.

Motor vehicle missing—A white 2005 Chevy Express van was taken out of the driveway of a resident in the 400 block of Naperville Road between 3 p.m. Feb. 26 and 10 a.m. Feb. 27.

According to police, the resident in possession of the van had only paid half of the $3,000 he agreed to pay the prior owner and the department believes the prior owner took it back. Police have closed their investigation because such a case is not classified as a theft and is a civil matter.

Identity theft—An unknown suspect used the personal information of a victim from the 300 block of North Prospect Avenue to open credit accounts with Dell and an electronics store in Monroe, Wis. The suspect then charged approximately $4,650 to the accounts.

The identity theft was reported to police on Feb. 23.
