4th of July in Clarendon Hills to Feature Concert, Family Festival and Fireworks

The Fourth of July falls on a Wednesday this year, meaning it coincides with the village's weekly Dancin' in the Street concert.

Independence Day 2012 should be a memorable one in Clarendon Hills, as the Clarendon Hills Park District's usual goings-on coincide with one of the village's weekly downtown concerts.

The park district's annual Summer Family Festival will take place in Prospect Park beginning at 7 p.m. Wednesday.

"Come out to Prospect Park with your family, neighbors and friends to enjoy an old-fashioned, patriotic Fourth of July celebration," a Clarendon Hills Park District release reads.

Food, family activities and "traditional holiday fun" will take place before a Hinsdale Golf Club fireworks show at dusk, which can be viewed from Prospect Park.

At the same time as the Family Festival will be the third installment of the village's Dancin' in the Street concert series downtown. Sorry for Partying will start playing at 6:30 p.m. so that families can get the concert in before their traditional Independence Day activities.

Clarendon Hills Fire Chief Brian Leahy said at Monday night's Village Board meeting that the golf club still plans on holding the fireworks show and has been soaking its property with approximately 400,000 gallons of water per day to keep it wet and safe for fireworks.

However, the chief said that if winds are high on Wednesday, the club may need to reconsider due to concern that sparks may carry to areas outside the club that are dry due to a lack of rain this summer.
