Don't expect a lot of drama from the Clarendon Hills Village Board candidates this spring: It appears everyone in the race is already a winner.

Don Knoll, Ed Reid and Eric Stach, the three candidates endorsed last year by the Clarendon Hills Community Caucus, will be running unopposed on the April 9 ballot in the race for three available seats on the board, according to village clerk Dawn Tandle.

The three men were the only residents to file nominating papers to run for trustee during the designated filing period between Dec. 19 and Dec. 26.

Just because the three are unopposed doesn't mean there aren't any differences of opinion among them. 

Stach is a member of the steering committee for Citizens for Clarendon Hills, a group that opposed the village's unsuccessful bid to attain home rule in 2012. 

The group has recently come out against any redevelopment at the Clarendon Hills train station and, in a Dec. 21 letter sent to those on its email list, against the Hinsdale-Clarendon Hills police merger.

"In general the opposition is due to the lack of a referendum process and incomplete information," the email reads.

Reid, the lone incumbent among the three 2013 candidates, spoke out during a board meeting last February after Stach said the pairing of a local property-tax cap with home rule did not sway Citizens for Clarendon Hills on the issue.

“You’ve brought the politics of cynicism and innuendo and anger,” Reid said to members of the group in attendance that night, including Stach. “This is simply a matter of how we feel it’s best to conduct the business of this town. I certainly don’t see that coming from your end. I feel I’m being vilified and attacked.”

Knoll currently serves as vice president of the Clarendon Hills Park District Board of Commissioners. His term expires this spring.

Also uncontested this spring will be the race for Clarendon Hills Library Board of Trustees. Kimberly Glowniak, Margaret Kealy, Marcie Purcell and Joan Tuisl will likely fill the four seats left by current trustees Lisa Cosgrove, Steve Ostradka, Maureen Scully and Diane Windisch.
