The Notre Dame 6th grade basketball team of Clarendon Hills won the Suburban Parochial League Championship Sunday beating Immaculate Conception (Elmhurst) 24-17 at Fenwick High School in Oak Park.
It marked the first boys’ basketball championship at Notre Dame in more than 15 years and comes on the heels of the team winning its conference with just one loss.
"The boys played hard all year and elevated their game, especially late in the season,” said Brad Schmid, team coach and school athletic director.
“We’re proud of how the boys played and what they've accomplished for themselves and Notre Dame," said coach Marty Dolan, noting that Notre Dame is much smaller than most of the other conference schools with only one class per grade.
Notre Dame’s 6th grade B team finished second in the same conference with only one regular season loss.
The conference consists of teams from St. John of the Cross (Western Springs), Visitation (Elmhurst), St. Francis (LaGrange), St. Cletus (LaGrange), Immaculate Conception (Elmhurst), and St. Isaacs (Hinsdale).
